💰 How far does your money go?
A pint in a London pub is pushing £6.50. A large Chang from a Bangkok shophouse is about 60 baht, near £1.40. Pad thai from a street cart runs 60 to 80 baht, under £2. Specialty coffee, and this city takes coffee seriously, lands around 120 baht, roughly £2.70. Eat where locals eat and £12 covers your day.
☀️ The weather
December is the best month to land here. It is the driest of the year, barely 6mm of rain across the whole month, and the humidity finally drops off. Days sit around 32°C, nights cool to 22°C. Expect clear skies for temple-hopping and rooftop bars.

🎯 What to do
A city best taken at street level.
Wat Pho and Wat Arun — The giant reclining Buddha, then the river crossing to the porcelain spire on the far bank. Go before 9am.
Chatuchak weekend market — 15,000 stalls, vintage denim to grilled skewers. Saturdays and Sundays only.
Longtail boat through the Thonburi canals — Stilt houses and hidden temples the main river never shows you. Agree the price before you step in.
Yaowarat after dark — Chinatown's main road becomes an open-air kitchen at night. Follow the longest queues.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Bangkok is the hub, not the whole trip.
Ayutthaya — Ruined former capital, crumbling temple towers and a Buddha head wrapped in tree roots, 90 minutes north by train. Kanchanaburi — The River Kwai bridge and jungle waterfalls, two hours west by minivan. Koh Samet — The closest proper beach, white sand and cheap bungalows, three hours by bus and ferry. Chiang Mai — Mountain temples, night bazaars and cooler air, 75 minutes by domestic flight. Krabi — Limestone cliffs and longtail boats to the Andaman islands, 90 minutes south by air.
Non-stop to Bangkok under £450 does not hang around. Lock the dates, then argue about islands later.
