💰 How far does your money go?

A neighbourhood beer in Milan runs you €7, and a seated espresso at a café table can hit €3–5. In Bangkok, a plate of pad thai from a street cart costs around 60 baht, just over €1.50, and a cold Chang beer at a night market is about 90 baht, under €2.30. A full day of eating from street stalls comes to roughly €10, less than one aperitivo back home.

☀️ The Weather

Bangkok in May and June sits firmly in the high season for heat, with daytime temperatures between 32–35°C and overnight lows rarely dropping below 26°C. Humidity climbs as June brings the start of the rainy season, so expect short, heavy downpours most afternoons that clear up fast. Mornings and evenings are the best time to be outdoors before the heat peaks.

🏨 Where to Stay

Three options depending on how much you want to spend after an eleven-hour flight.

Lub d Bangkok Siam — 8.2/10 · From €22/night A social hostel right in Siam Square, walking distance to the BTS and Chatuchak-bound trains.

Avani+ Riverside Bangkok — 8.7/10 · From €85/night Rooftop infinity pool and a free shuttle boat along the Chao Phraya, genuine river views without the five-star price.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok — 9.3/10 · From €420/night Riverside since 1879, with butler service and some of the city's best fine dining, for the full splurge.

🎯 What to Do

Temples, markets and rooftops, all a short BTS ride apart.

Grand Palace and Wat Pho — The giant reclining Buddha and the sharp gold spires of the royal temple complex, best visited early before the heat and crowds build. Chatuchak Weekend Market — Over 8,000 stalls of clothes, antiques and food, easily a half-day on its own if you let yourself wander. Chinatown night market — Yaowarat Road lights up after dark with grilled seafood, noodle stalls and neon signs, Bangkok's food scene at its loudest. Rooftop sunset at Lebua — The Sky Bar made famous on screen, best timed for the hour when the skyline turns orange over the river.

🗺️ Where to Go From Here

Bangkok is a launchpad, not a final stop.

Ayutthaya — Centuries-old temple ruins by train from Bangkok's main station, about ninety minutes each way. Amphawa floating market — Boats loaded with grilled seafood and firefly tours at dusk, a couple of hours from the city. Koh Samet — White-sand beaches and a laid-back island pace, roughly three hours by bus and boat. Chiang Mai — Mountains, temples and a cooler climate, an hour and fifteen minutes by domestic flight.
