💰 How far does your money go?
Calgary runs cheaper than the rest of Canada, and it shows. A flat white at Phil & Sebastian costs around CAD 6, roughly €4, about what you would hand over on a Paris terrace for a worse coffee. A pint of Alberta craft beer is CAD 8, near €5. A proper sit-down lunch, burger and fries with a drink, lands around CAD 25, close to €16. Groceries are tax-free in Alberta, so a supermarket run stretches further than you expect.
☀️ The weather
November in Calgary is properly cold. Daytime highs sit between 1°C and 4°C, and nights drop to around -7°C. Expect roughly 12 days with snow across the month. One wildcard: the chinook, a warm wind off the mountains that can push the temperature above 15°C in a few hours, then let it crash again. Pack layers and a real coat.
🏨 Where to stay
Downtown puts you on the C-Train and a short walk from Stephen Avenue.
Coast Calgary Downtown Hotel & Suites — 8.1/10 · From €95/night Big rooms, central, solid value. Fine for a base you will barely be in.
Hotel Arts Kensington — 8.6/10 · From €130/night Boutique place in Kensington, two minutes over the river from downtown, with one of the city's best restaurants attached.
Le Germain Hotel Calgary — 9.1/10 · From €200/night Design-led, next to the Calgary Tower, walk-in showers and a proper bar. The splurge.
🎯 What to do
Calgary is a launchpad. Half your trip should happen outside the city.
Banff Gondola — Eight minutes up Sulphur Mountain to a ridgetop boardwalk with the whole front range in view.
Johnston Canyon — A catwalk pinned to the canyon wall leads to waterfalls that freeze solid by late November.
Studio Bell, National Music Centre — Five floors of instruments and Canadian music history inside the city's boldest building.
Inglewood — Calgary's oldest neighbourhood: record shops, distilleries and craft taprooms along one strip.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Calgary is the gateway to the Rockies, not the destination.
Banff — The postcard mountain town, 90 minutes west by car or shuttle bus. Hot springs, gondola, elk on the main street.
Lake Louise — Frozen turquoise lake under the glaciers, about two hours from the city.
Canmore — Quieter than Banff, just outside the park gates, an hour away.
Drumheller — Badlands and the Royal Tyrrell dinosaur museum, 90 minutes northeast into the prairie.
Kananaskis — Mountain country with a cliffside Nordic spa, an hour southwest.
Non-stop to the Rockies for €357 does not sit around. Lock the dates, then work out the rest.
