💰 How far does your money go?
In Cancun's local spots, three tacos and a drink come to about £6.50. A beer from a tienda costs under £1.60. A margarita at a neighbourhood bar stays under £5.50. The Hotel Zone runs pricier, but walk ten minutes off the strip and the difference is immediate.
☀️ The weather
June in Cancun is hot and humid. Temperatures peak around 32°C, with most afternoons reaching that mark before a brief shower rolls through. Nights stay around 27°C. The sea sits at 28°C, which makes spending most of the day in the water a perfectly sensible plan.

🎯 What to do
Cancun sits between the Caribbean and one of the most visited archaeological regions in the Americas.
Chichen Itza day tour: One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, two hours by bus from Cancun. Most tours include a cenote swim and a stop in Valladolid.
Cenote snorkelling: The Yucatan Peninsula is riddled with natural limestone sinkholes connected to a vast underground river system. Swimming in one is unlike anything else.
Isla Mujeres catamaran day trip: A car-free island less than an hour from Cancun, with some of the clearest water in Mexico. Open bar and snorkelling usually included.
Taco and beer tour: Eat at local taquerias in the city, then head into the Hotel Zone for the nightlife. Coco Bongo remains as ridiculous and entertaining as ever.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Cancun is a gateway to the whole Yucatan Peninsula.
Tulum: Mayan ruins on sea cliffs and a bohemian beach town beneath them. Two hours south by bus.
Holbox: A car-free island with bioluminescent waters and whale sharks offshore (June is whale shark season). 2.5 hours by bus and ferry north.
Playa del Carmen: A lively beach town 45 minutes south, good for cenote access and the pedestrianised 5th Avenue strip.
Isla Mujeres: Less than an hour by ferry. Golf carts, white sand, and excellent snorkelling close to shore.
Coba: Jungle-covered Mayan ruins where you can still climb the main pyramid. Quieter than Chichen Itza and worth the detour.
