💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?

September is Cancun's wettest month. Expect highs of 33°C, nights near 25°C, and a hard burst of rain most afternoons that clears within the hour. It is also peak hurricane season on paper, though direct hits on the Yucatán are rare: fewer than a dozen in forty years. By mid-October the rain eases and the humidity drops. Pick October dates if you want the heat without the drama.

🎯 What to Do
Ruins, reefs, and a downtown that has nothing to do with the resorts.
Isla Mujeres — Fifteen-minute ferry to white sand and calm, shallow water. Snorkel Manchones Reef or just stretch out on Playa Norte.
Chichén Itzá — The Maya pyramid two hours inland. Take the first bus at 8am, before the crowds and the heat arrive together. Most trips add a cenote swim.
Parque de las Palapas — The food square locals actually use. Marquesitas, panuchos, grilled everything, for a few pounds.
Coco Bongo — Less a club than a variety show: acrobats, tribute acts, confetti cannons. Cancun's loudest night out.

Cancun is the gateway to the whole Yucatán coast, not the end of the line.
Playa del Carmen — Busier, younger beach town an hour south by ADO bus.
Tulum — Cliffside Maya ruins above the sea, cenotes inland. Around two hours by bus or the new Maya Train.
Cozumel — Mexico's best diving. Bus to Playa del Carmen, then a 45-minute ferry.
Holbox — Car-free island of sandbars and flamingos. Two and a half hours to Chiquilá, then a short ferry.
