Visit Boulders Beach and Cape Point — African penguins waddling around a beach an hour from the city centre, then the cliffs where two oceans meet.
Wander Bo-Kaap and the V&A Waterfront markets — Cape Malay food, brightly painted houses, and enough food stalls to skip a sit-down dinner altogether.
Take the ferry to Robben Island — Nelson Mandela's prison for 18 years, now a museum run largely by former political prisoners.

The Garden Route — Forests, beaches and one of the world's highest bungee jumps, best done as a multi-day drive from Mossel Bay onwards.
Kruger National Park — A two-hour flight for a proper Big Five safari to round off the trip.
