💰 How far does your money go?
A prato do dia in Lisbon or Porto now costs €10-12. In a Cape Verdean tasca, a plate of cachupa, the national stew of corn, beans and fish or meat, comes in at around €5. An espresso is about €1, much like a bica back home, and a cold Strela beer in a local bar costs roughly €2. Sal and Boa Vista are pricier, so eat where the locals eat and the money goes a long way.

October is the warmest month of this window, with highs of 29°C and a sea at 26°C. From November to May, days settle between 24°C and 28°C, with almost no rain. The water cools to around 23°C by May, still fine for a long swim. The trade winds pick up in winter, which is great news for kitesurfers and keeps the heat comfortable.

Mindelo Carnival, São Vicente - Cape Verde's biggest party, held in February, with a Brazilian-style parade and live music until sunrise.
Cidade Velha, Santiago - The first European colonial town in the tropics and Cape Verde's only UNESCO World Heritage site, 15 km from Praia.
Pedra de Lume salt crater, Sal - Float in a salt lake inside an old volcanic crater. It is so salty you cannot sink.
