💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?
That €519 is the big spend. Fortaleza barely touches your card after that. A cold chopp on the beach is R$10, about €1.60, less than a caña on a Madrid terrace. Fresh água de coco straight from the shell runs R$7. A tapioca folded with cheese and coconut is R$12. Grilled lobster at a Praia do Futuro barraca, feet in the sand, costs R$80, around €13. February and March fall in Fortaleza's wet season. Highs hold at 30°C, nights stay near 23°C, and the sea sits around 27°C all year. Rain comes in short heavy bursts, usually overnight or as a fast afternoon downpour that clears within the hour. The sky opens up again quickly. Pack a light rain layer and keep beach plans to the mornings.

Beach barracas by day, forró by night.
Praia do Futuro barracas — The beach-bar strip south of the centre. Thatched barracas with loungers, showers and fried fish. Thursday is crab night, when half the city turns up for caranguejo and live music.
Centro Dragão do Mar — The culture quarter in old Iracema: galleries, a planetarium, the Ceará museum, and bars packed under the walkways after dark.
Cumbuco dunes — Thirty minutes west. Buggy runs over the dunes, sandboarding, and a drag down the sand straight into Lagoa do Parnamirim.
Forró at Pirata Bar — Billed as the craziest Monday in the world. Live forró, a sweaty dance floor, a Fortaleza institution on Iracema beach.
🗺️ Where to Go From Here
Fortaleza is the gateway to the Ceará coast, not the last stop.
Jericoacoara — Brazil's most famous beach village. Car-free, sand streets, a sunset dune. Around 5 hours by bus or a faster transfer via Jijoca.
Canoa Quebrada — Red cliffs, kite beaches and nightlife along Broadway. Roughly 2.5 hours south by bus.
Cumbuco — Kitesurf and buggy beach 30 km west. Easy as a day trip or a lazy overnight.
Lençóis Maranhenses — The white dune field with rain-fed lagoons, over the state line in Maranhão. A long haul, but a bucket-list add-on via Barreirinhas.
