💰 How far does your money go?

A slice of pizza at a classic New York counter runs about €4, roughly what you'd pay for an Ebbelwoi in Sachsenhausen. A full sit-down dinner in Manhattan lands around €25 to €30 a head before tip, and a cocktail at a decent bar costs €15 to €20, close to double what you'd pay on the Kaiserstraße. Even a fast-casual lunch with a drink comes to €15 to €18.

☀️ The Weather

New York in April is unpredictable. Expect highs of 14°C to 16°C and nights closer to 5°C to 8°C, with rain dropping in roughly every other day. By the end of the month afternoons push into the high teens and Central Park turns properly green. Pack layers, not a full winter coat.

🏨 Where to Stay

Long Island City for value, NoMad for walkability, DUMBO for the skyline view everyone's after.

Boro Hotel — 8.3/10 · From €140/night Quiet Long Island City base, one subway stop from Manhattan and considerably calmer than anything across the river.

Broadway Plaza Hotel — 8.8/10 · From €110/night A 69-room boutique spot in NoMad, steps from the Flatiron Building and the best value-to-location ratio in Manhattan.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge — 9.0/10 · From €510/night Waterfront in DUMBO, floor-to-ceiling views of the Manhattan skyline and the bridge itself.

🎯 What to Do

A city where the skyline, the parks and the food carts never really switch off.

Top of the Rock — Sunset views over the Empire State Building and Central Park, arrive by 5pm for golden hour.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art — Rooftop garden looks out over Central Park, allow at least half a day.

Brooklyn Bridge walk at dawn — Free, essential New York, best done before the tour groups arrive.

Katz's Delicatessen, Lower East Side — The pastrami sandwich worth the queue. Order at the counter and tip the carver.

🗺️ Where to Go From Here

New York is also the easiest jumping-off point in the northeast.

Beacon, Hudson Valley — 90 minutes on Metro-North, Dia Beacon and a walkable gallery-lined main street.

Cold Spring — 75 minutes by train from Grand Central, with the Breakneck Ridge trail starting right at the station.

Fire Island — LIRR to Bay Shore then a 25-minute ferry, car-free beaches without the Hamptons price tag.
