Punta Cana is the Dominican Republic's sun-soaked east coast: 22 miles of white sand, turquoise water, and coral reefs just offshore. TUI UK is flying there non-stop from Belfast, London, and Manchester this summer, from £244 return. No connections, no waiting in transit. Just board and land in the Caribbean.

💰 How far does your money go?

Once you land, costs drop sharply. A Presidente beer at a tourist bar runs around $4 (£3). A full local lunch (rice, beans, grilled chicken) comes to about $8 (£6.30). A rum cocktail on the beach costs $5 (£4). For a week in Punta Cana, a mid-range daily budget of around £70–£90 covers food, drinks, and a couple of activities outside your resort.

☀️ The weather

June and July fall in Punta Cana's wetter season, but that rarely means a ruined holiday. Temperatures hold at 29–32°C, with strong morning sunshine and short tropical showers in the afternoon that clear within the hour. Sea temperature stays around 28°C throughout. Pack light clothes and a small waterproof.

🎯 What to do

Punta Cana blends beach, adventure, and nightlife better than most Caribbean destinations.

Macao Beach: A wild, undeveloped stretch of coast outside the resort zone. Strong waves, few crowds, and a completely different feel from Bávaro.

Scape Park at Cap Cana: 247 acres of adventure: ziplines, cenote swimming, cave exploration, and cliff jumping. Half a day disappears easily.

Coco Bongo show: A Las Vegas-style live show with 40+ performers, film-themed acts, and open bar all night. Loud, excessive, and worth it.

Saona Island catamaran trip: The island off Punta Cana's southern tip has a natural swimming pool where you stand waist-deep surrounded by starfish. One of the most memorable things you can do in the Dominican Republic.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Punta Cana sits on the east coast, but the rest of the Dominican Republic is well within reach.

Santo Domingo: The capital is a 3-hour drive west. Its colonial zone is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest European-founded cities in the Americas.

Samaná Peninsula: A 3.5-hour drive north brings a quieter, wilder coastline. January to March is whale-watching season. The El Limón waterfall is worth the trip any time of year.

Las Terrenas: A small coastal town on the north side of Samaná, known for a laid-back expat community and a very different pace to the Bávaro resort strip.

Jarabacoa: An hour inland, deep in the mountains: waterfalls, whitewater rafting, and temperatures cool enough to feel like a different country.
