💰 How far does your money go?

Bangkok runs on small notes. A plate of pad thai from a street cart is about €1.80. Chicken rice or a bowl of noodles is closer to €1.50. A large Chang from a shophouse fridge costs around €1.60. One beer in an Oslo bar runs €9 to €12. That single pint at home covers a full day of eating in Bangkok, with money left for the boat across the river.

☀️ The weather

Late October still catches the tail of the wet season. Expect highs near 32°C, nights around 24°C, and short heavy downpours most afternoons that clear within the hour. November is the sweet spot: hot, dry and less humid, around 31°C by day and 23°C at night. December stays dry and cools slightly after dark, closer to 21°C, the most comfortable month of the year. Pack light clothes, sandals and a thin rain layer for the October dates.

🏨 Where to stay

Sukhumvit for the Skytrain and nightlife, the old town near the river for temples.

Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 — 8.4/10 · From €38/night Reliable, clean and a few minutes from Nana Skytrain, with breakfast included.

INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit — 9.0/10 · From €82/night Modern rooms and a rooftop pool in Thong Lor, walking distance to the bars and restaurants.

137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok — 9.2/10 · From €230/night Colonial-style suites, a 27th-floor infinity pool and one of the quietest corners of Sukhumvit.

🎯 What to do

A city best done in blocks: temples in the morning, markets and river at night.

Grand Palace and Wat Pho: The gold spires and the reclining Buddha, side by side. Go at opening to beat the heat and the tour buses.

Wat Arun by river boat: Take the public Chao Phraya Express boat upriver and cross to Wat Arun for sunset, when the porcelain temple turns pink.

Chatuchak weekend market: Around 15,000 stalls of clothes, art, plants and food. Only open Saturday and Sunday, so plan your dates around it.

Yaowarat street food: Bangkok's Chinatown after dark, when the pavement fills with grills, noodle woks and stalls selling fresh mango and sticky rice.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Bangkok is the hub for the rest of Thailand, not the whole trip.

Ayutthaya: The ruined old capital, temple complexes and stone Buddha heads wrapped in tree roots. Ninety minutes by train.

Chiang Mai: Mountains, night markets and temple-covered hills in the north. About one hour by plane.

Krabi: Limestone cliffs and longtail boats out to Railay and the islands. Roughly ninety minutes by plane.

Ko Samet: The closest proper beach, a small island with white sand and clear water. Three to four hours by bus and ferry from Bangkok.

Ko Samui: Palm-lined beaches and ferries onward to Pha Ngan and Tao. One hour by plane.

Non-stop to Bangkok from Oslo under €400 is rare and it will not last. Lock your dates and book.
