Bangkok is closer than your next Norwegian winter.

The dark sets in around 4pm in Oslo this time of year. In Bangkok, it is 32°C and the market stalls stay open until midnight. Norse Atlantic flies non-stop between the two, from €389 return.

💰 How far does your money go?

A plate of pad thai from a street stall costs €1.60. A cold Singha at a night market runs €2.50, against €9 for a beer back home. A full meal, rice, curry and a drink, comes to around €6 at a local spot. In Oslo that barely covers a coffee.

☀️ The weather

Bangkok in November holds at 32°C during the day, dropping to 24°C at night, with the monsoon well and truly over. December is even drier and slightly cooler, 32°C by day and 22°C after dark, with the lowest humidity of the year. Both months are Bangkok's sweet spot: clear skies, warm evenings, minimal rain.

🏨 Where to stay

Bangkok covers every budget, often within a few streets of each other.

Lub d Bangkok Siam Square · 8.7/10 · From €20/night Design-led rooms right in Siam, walking distance to the BTS and the malls. The best value in the city centre.

Ad Lib Bangkok · 8.6/10 · From €58/night A boutique 4-star on Sukhumvit with a rooftop pool, minutes from Nana BTS station.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok · 9.4/10 · From €380/night Riverside colonial-era icon with its own private garden and boat shuttle. Still the benchmark after more than a century.

🎯 What to do

Bangkok rewards anyone willing to slow down and wander.

The Grand Palace and Wat Pho — Thailand's most important temple complex, home to the Emerald Buddha and a reclining Buddha the length of a football pitch.

Chatuchak Weekend Market — Over 8,000 stalls selling everything from vintage clothes to street food, best tackled early before the heat and crowds build.

Chao Phraya river cruise at dusk — Temples and skyscrapers lit up on both banks as longtail boats cut through the water.

A Muay Thai match at Rajadamnern Stadium — Ringside energy, live drums, and a proper introduction to Thailand's national sport.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Bangkok is the hub. The rest of Thailand is the reason to stay longer.

Ayutthaya — The ancient capital, an hour and a half north by train. Crumbling temple ruins and Buddha heads tangled in banyan roots.

Chiang Mai — Just over an hour by domestic flight. Mountains, night bazaars and a completely different pace to the capital.

Koh Samui — About an hour and a half by domestic flight. White beaches and enough infrastructure for an easy first island stop.

Krabi — Roughly an hour and a half by air, gateway to Railay Beach's limestone cliffs and clear water.

Non-stop from Oslo. From €389. Book before the good dates disappear.
