October in London is already over. The days are short, the commute is grim, and the heating bill has started arriving. Orlando in October is 29°C, non-stop, from £275 return on Norse Atlantic.

💰 How far does your money go?
A diner breakfast costs $12. A Cuban sandwich at a local spot is $10. A craft beer on International Drive runs $7. It is not Bangkok. But the flight costs less than most people spend getting to Heathrow, and the sun is out when you land.
☀️ The weather
London in late October is 11°C on a good day, dark by 5pm, and wet most weeks. Orlando in October sits at 29°C with 8 hours of sunshine and warm evenings. November cools slightly to around 28°C during the day and 13°C at night. Halloween week is one of the best times to visit: the parks go all out, the crowds are manageable, and the heat is no longer brutal.
🏨 Where to stay
Orlando has no shortage of hotels, from budget chains near the parks to full luxury resorts.
Tru by Hilton Orlando Convention Center Area — 8.8/10 · From £65/night Central location, free breakfast, and genuinely good value for a theme park base.
Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando — Disney Springs Area — 9.3/10 · From £120/night Superb rating for a reason. Free hot breakfast, evening drinks included, and right next to Disney Springs.
Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World — 9.2/10 · From £450/night Multiple pools, a dedicated water park, five restaurants, and direct access to the Magic Kingdom. If you are going to do Disney, do it properly.
🎯 What to do
Orlando is theme park territory, but there is plenty beyond the queues.
Universal Epic Universe: The biggest theme park addition in a generation. Five immersive worlds, 50+ attractions, and enough to fill a full day without repeating anything.
Kennedy Space Center: An hour east of Orlando. The Shuttle Atlantis exhibit and the Saturn V rocket hall are genuinely impressive. One of the better days out in Florida that has nothing to do with roller coasters.
ICON Park: The 400-foot observation wheel on International Drive, alongside an aquarium, arcade, and restaurants. Good for an evening when the parks have worn you out.
Airboat tour through the Everglades: About 30 minutes from I-Drive. Alligators in the wild, cypress trees, and a reminder that Florida existed before the theme parks.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Orlando sits roughly in the middle of Florida, which makes it a strong base.
Cocoa Beach: 1 hour east. The closest Atlantic beach to Orlando. Surf spots, fish and chips on the pier, and the Kennedy Space Center on the way back.
Clearwater Beach: 2 hours west. One of the best beaches in the US. White sand, warm Gulf water, and a town that knows what it is there for.
St. Augustine: 2 hours north. The oldest city in the United States. Cobblestone streets, a 16th-century fort, and a completely different pace from Orlando.
Miami: 4 hours south. Art Deco hotels, Cuban food, Wynwood murals, and South Beach. Viable if you are renting a car and staying long enough to justify the drive.
Non-stop to Florida from £275. That does not happen often. Check dates and book before Norse puts the price back up.
