💰 How far does your money go?
A pint in London costs around £6.50. A beer in Bangkok costs £2.50. A plate of Pad Thai from a street cart is £1.50. Dinner for two at a solid local restaurant, with drinks, comes in at around £15. Your daily food budget can comfortably sit at £10 without skimping on anything. In London, that barely covers a meal deal and a coffee.
☀️ The weather
London in June averages 18°C with rain on roughly a third of the days. Bangkok in June and July sits at 32°C, warm and humid, with afternoon showers that clear quickly. October and November are the sweet spot: 30°C, drying out fast, and far less crowded than peak season. December through February is the best stretch Thailand has: 28°C, dry, and clear skies most days.

🎯 What to do
Bangkok is overwhelming in the best way. Here is where to start.
Wat Pho and the Grand Palace — Bangkok's two most iconic landmarks sit side by side on the river. The reclining Buddha at Wat Pho is 46 metres long. Neither takes more than half a day and both are within walking distance of each other.
Chatuchak Weekend Market — Over 8,000 stalls across 35 acres. Clothes, antiques, street food, plants, and things you cannot name. Go early on Saturday before the heat builds.
Yaowarat, Bangkok's Chinatown — After dark is when it comes alive. Roasted duck, oyster omelettes, and fried crab lining the streets for blocks. Some stalls have been running for over 50 years.
Damnoen Saduak floating market — Vendors on narrow wooden boats selling fruit, Pad Thai, and grilled skewers along the canals. About one hour south-west of the city. Go in the morning.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Bangkok is Southeast Asia's main hub. From here, half the continent is within two hours.
Chiang Mai — 1-hour flight north. Temples in the mountains, night markets, and a pace that is nothing like Bangkok. Best from November to February.
Koh Samui — 1-hour flight south. White-sand beaches and clear water, with a coastline ranging from quiet coves to full resort strips.
Koh Chang — 4 hours east by road and ferry. Waterfalls, jungle trails, and beaches far less crowded than the southern islands.
Ayutthaya — 1.5 hours north by train. Ancient ruins of the former Siamese capital, most reachable by bicycle in a single day.
Siem Reap, Cambodia — 1-hour flight. Angkor Wat at sunrise, then the rest of the temple complex for the afternoon. One of the most dramatic historical sites in the world.
Non-stop from London, with dates running through to March. The November to February window is the best Thailand gets. Check prices before it fills.
