Bangkok costs less per day than a long weekend in Lisbon. A pad thai from a street stall: €2. A cold Singha at a local bar: under €2. A full dinner at a sit-down Thai restaurant: €8. Iberojet is flying non-stop from Madrid to Bangkok from €579 return, on an Airbus A350. The flight is eleven hours and forty-five minutes. Everything after landing is cheap.

💰 How far does your money go?
In Madrid, a caña costs around €2.50 and a set lunch runs €12-15. In Bangkok, those same €15 cover breakfast, lunch, and a cold beer with change to spare. A pad thai from a street vendor costs under €2. Mango with sticky rice: €1.20. Even a sit-down restaurant with air conditioning rarely exceeds €8 per head. Budget €40-50 per day and you will eat and drink well.
☀️ The weather
June through October is Bangkok's monsoon season. That means heat, humidity, and afternoon downpours that last an hour or two, then clear. Temperatures stay around 30-32°C. It also means fewer tourists, lower hotel prices, and lush green landscapes. Madrid in August sits at 36°C and bone dry. Bangkok is 31°C and tropical. Both are hot, but only one has street food on every corner.
🏨 Where to stay
Bangkok has hotels at every price point. Three worth knowing.
Amara Bangkok · 8.6/10 · From €65/night A polished four-star in Silom with a rooftop pool. Well-reviewed, central, and quiet enough to sleep.
Chatrium Grand Bangkok · 8.8/10 · From €110/night Riverside location with large rooms and one of the best breakfast spreads in the city. Solid mid-range value.
SILQ Hotel and Residence · 9.1/10 · From €180/night Near BTS Phrom Phong and Emporium. Sleek design, exceptional service, and a rooftop pool that earns the step up.
🎯 What to do
Bangkok rewards slow exploration as much as landmark-ticking.
The Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Golden spires, the Emerald Buddha, and the giant reclining Buddha five minutes away. Go early to beat the heat and the crowds.
Muay Thai at Rajadamnern Stadium. Fast, technical, and loud. One of the best live sport experiences in Southeast Asia. Buy tickets at the door.
Chinatown at night. Yaowarat Road after dark: street stalls, neon signs, roast duck, and dim sum. Enter hungry.
Wat Arun at sunset. The Temple of Dawn on the west bank of the Chao Phraya. Best seen from the opposite bank as the light drops.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Bangkok is a gateway, not a final stop.
Chiang Mai. One hour north by plane. Temples, night markets, jungle trekking, and the best khao soi in Thailand. A completely different pace.
Phuket. 1.5 hours south by plane. Limestone cliffs, turquoise water, and the gateway to Koh Phi Phi and the Similan Islands.
Koh Samui. 1.5 hours by plane. Thailand's second-largest island, with calmer waters and options for every budget.
Ayutthaya. 1.5 hours from Bangkok by train. The old Thai capital, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A half-day is enough.
Koh Lanta. Quieter and less developed than Phuket. Fly to Krabi, then ferry across. Best beaches without the crowds.
At €579 return with no stops, this is one of the better value long-haul routes flying out of Spain right now. Iberojet operates once a week and seats at this price do not last. Check availability and lock in a date.
