💰 How far does your money go?

A plate of pad thai at a street stall costs about €1.50. A cold Chang beer at a riverside bar runs around €1.80. A bowl of tom kha soup in a local restaurant comes to €2. What you'd spend on a menú del día back home gets you dinner and drinks for two in Bangkok, with change left over.

☀️ The weather

September and October are warm and humid, with temperatures around 32°C and regular afternoon rain showers — this is the tail end of monsoon season. November marks the turning point: skies clear, humidity drops, and temperatures settle between 23°C and 30°C. December and January are Bangkok's best months: dry, bright, and between 22°C and 30°C. If you can travel then, go then.

🏨 Where to stay

Bangkok rewards knowing which neighbourhood to pick. Riverside for atmosphere, Sukhumvit for nightlife and transport, Silom for the restaurants locals actually go to.

Ibis Bangkok Riverside — 8.2/10 · From €35/night
Clean, modern rooms on the Chao Phraya with a free shuttle to the BTS Skytrain. Solid value and a great location for first-timers.

Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn — 8.6/10 · From €75/night
Direct BTS Skytrain access, spacious rooms, and a rooftop pool. Mid-range done properly.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok — 9.3/10 · From €420/night
On the Chao Phraya since 1879. One of the most iconic hotels in Asia, with service and atmosphere that more than justify the price once.

🎯 What to do

Bangkok asks nothing of you. Temples on one street, rooftop bars on the next.

Wat Pho — The Temple of the Reclining Buddha. One of Bangkok's oldest and largest temple complexes, home to a 46-metre gold statue that fills the entire room.

Grand Palace — The most visited site in Bangkok. An immense royal compound with gilded spires and meticulous detail. Go early and cover your shoulders and knees.

Chatuchak Weekend Market — 15,000 stalls across 27 sections. Street food, vintage clothing, ceramics, plants. Come hungry and leave with too much.

Chao Phraya night cruise — Bangkok's skyline from the river at dusk, with Wat Arun lit up on the western bank. One of the best views in Southeast Asia, and short ferry rides cost under €1.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Bangkok is one of the best-connected hubs in Southeast Asia. From Don Mueang airport, budget carriers fly everywhere.

Chiang Mai — 1-hour flight. Thailand's cultural capital: temple-lined streets, hill tribe villages, night markets, and elephant sanctuaries north of the city.

Koh Samui — 1.5-hour flight. White sand beaches, clear water, and the infrastructure to stay comfortable without being overrun.

Koh Tao — Reachable via Koh Samui or Surat Thani. One of the most affordable dive destinations in the world, with visibility that can stretch past 20 metres.

Phuket — 1.5-hour flight. The most developed beach destination in Thailand. Pick the right part of the island and it's still worth it.

Ayutthaya — 1.5-hour train from Bangkok. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and former capital of the Kingdom of Siam. Ancient temple ruins and almost no crowds compared to the capital.

Iberojet doesn't run this route every day. Return prices at €526 for a non-stop to Bangkok are not common. Check dates before they disappear.
