Rome in January needs no explanation. Bangkok, meanwhile, is clear skies, street food, and heat you can actually feel. ITA Airways flies direct from Fiumicino: no layovers, no connections. From €699 return.

💰 How far does your money go?
A plate of pad thai from a street vendor costs €1.50. A cold Chang beer at a local bar is €2. That's less than a coffee near the Colosseum. An entire day of eating well, breakfast, a proper Thai lunch, street food dinner, and drinks, comes in at €20–25. Rome this is not.
☀️ The weather
Bangkok's dry season peaks in January and February. Temperatures sit between 22°C and 33°C, with clear skies and barely any rain. February is marginally warmer and just as dry. By Thai standards, the humidity is low. This is the best time to be there.
🏨 Where to stay
Bangkok has options at every level. Pick a base near the BTS Skytrain and the rest of the city opens up.

🎯 What to do
Bangkok doesn't do quiet. It does temples, markets, street food, and nights that go on longer than planned.
Wat Arun at sunrise: Cross the Chao Phraya by ferry for €0.20 and reach the Temple of Dawn before the crowds. One of the most striking sights in the city.
Yaowarat after dark: Bangkok's Chinatown is best at night. Sizzling woks, roasted duck, mango with sticky rice, and enough noise and colour to overwhelm every other sense.
Muay Thai at Rajadamnern Stadium: Live drums, a crowd that genuinely cares, and two fighters who've trained their whole lives for this. There is nothing like it.
Mahanakhon SkyWalk: Thailand's tallest observation deck. Glass floor, 360° panoramic views, and Bangkok stretching to the horizon in every direction. Go at sunset.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Bangkok is a gateway, not a dead end. Half of Southeast Asia is within easy reach.
Chiang Mai: 1 hour by domestic flight. Mountains, temples, night markets, and a completely different pace to Bangkok.
Koh Samui: 1.5 hours by domestic flight. White sand, turquoise water, and the Gulf of Thailand at its most photogenic.
Phuket: 1.5 hours by domestic flight. Islands, diving, and the Andaman Sea. January is peak season for a reason.
Ayutthaya: 1.5 hours by bus or train. Thailand's ancient capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site, with temple ruins across open plains.
Koh Chang: 5 hours by bus and ferry. Jungle-covered, barely commercialised, and one of Thailand's best-kept island secrets.
ITA Airways flies non-stop, €699 gets you there, and Bangkok delivers every time. Check availability before these dates go.
