💰 How far does your money go?
In Fortaleza, a prato feito — rice, beans, meat, salad — costs around €3 at a local restaurant. A cold Brahma on the beach goes for €1.50. A full day's budget here is around €35. In São Paulo, the legendary mortadella sandwich at the Mercadão runs €8, and a draught chopp in Vila Madalena costs about €2.50 — with €50 a day covering you comfortably in mid-range style.
☀️ The weather
Fortaleza sits just south of the equator: 30–32°C between February and May, cooled by strong trade winds off the Atlantic. February and March are technically the rainy season in Ceará, but rain arrives in short tropical bursts and clears fast. São Paulo in February and March is warm and humid at 26–28°C. By April and May, temperatures ease to a very pleasant 22–24°C — arguably the best time to visit.

🎯 What to do in Fortaleza
Wind, sand and forró music — Fortaleza runs on all three.
Praia do Futuro — 8km of palm-fringed beach with seafood shacks right on the sand. The place locals spend their Sundays.
Dragão do Mar Cultural Centre — Fortaleza's cultural heartbeat: museums, galleries, open-air stages and live music in one striking waterfront complex.
Canoa Quebrada day trip — Red sandstone cliffs, turquoise water and the iconic crescent-moon dunes. Two hours east of the city, a completely different world.
Forró in a live venue — The north-east invented forró. Hit a local club on a Thursday night and join the Brazilians on the dance floor.
🎯 What to do in São Paulo
São Paulo doesn't do slow. World-class, around the clock.
Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) — Van Gogh, Renoir and Picasso on crystal easels above Avenida Paulista. One of the best art museums in South America.
Mercado Municipal (Mercadão) — Thousands of stalls, legendary food and the energy of a city that takes eating very seriously. The mortadella sandwich is obligatory.
Vila Madalena and Beco do Batman — Street art by day, craft cocktail bars and nightlife by night. It doesn't get going until midnight.
Sunday on Avenida Paulista — The whole avenue closes to traffic every Sunday. Rollerskaters, live music, street food and the entire city out at once.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Neither city needs to be the end of the trip.
