💰 How far does your money go?
A pint in a London pub costs around £6. In Fuerteventura, a local beer in a bar costs €2.50. A three-course menu del día, starter, main, dessert and a drink, runs to about €10 in a local restaurant. That is less than a round and a half back home. Eating out every day barely makes a dent.
☀️ The weather
The UK in June averages 18°C and clouds that may or may not clear. Fuerteventura in June is 26–28°C, 10 hours of sunshine and almost no rain. The island sits 100km off the west coast of Africa. July pushes into the low 30s. Two weeks of reliable sun is the one thing you cannot get at home this summer, at any price.
🏨 Where to stay
Corralejo in the north and Costa Calma in the south are the island's two main bases. Both have direct beach access.
Barceló Corralejo Sands — 8.1/10 · From £70/night Central Corralejo location with pools and easy beach access. The most reliable choice at this price point on the island.
H10 Tindaya — 8.4/10 · From £95/night Four-star resort in Costa Calma, directly by the beach. A meaningful step up in space and comfort without the luxury price tag.
Secrets Bahía Real Resort & Spa — 9.0/10 · From £210/night Adults-only five-star on the Corralejo seafront, facing the Lobos island nature reserve. Spa, multiple pools, direct beach access. The best the island offers.
🎯 What to do
Fuerteventura is an outdoor island. The constant Atlantic winds make it one of the top kitesurfing and windsurfing destinations in Europe.
Parque Natural de Corralejo — A vast national park of white sand dunes and clear turquoise water in the island's north. The version of Fuerteventura you see on every poster.
Playa de Cofete — A 12km stretch of wild Atlantic beach at the southern tip of the island. No sun loungers, no infrastructure, no crowds. Exactly what it needs to be.
Los Lobos island — A tiny volcanic island 2km off Corralejo with a protected marine reserve and good snorkelling. The 15-minute ferry crosses several times daily.
Betancuria — The island's ancient inland capital. Whitewashed streets, a baroque church and local goat cheese made on surrounding farms. Quieter than the coast and worth half a day.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Fuerteventura is one of seven. The other islands are easy to reach.
Lanzarote — 45-minute ferry from Corralejo. Black lava fields, white villages and Timanfaya National Park. Very different from Fuerteventura, very worth seeing.
Gran Canaria — One-hour domestic flight. Sand dunes in the south, a proper city in Las Palmas, and more variety than any other island in the Canaries.
Tenerife — One-hour domestic flight. Mount Teide, beaches, and the archipelago's largest and most visited island. A full week's destination on its own.
Non-stop from £47. Four UK airports. Check the dates and book before they go.
