💰 How far does your money go?
A cold caña and a free tapa at a neighbourhood bar: €1.50–€2. A three-course menú del día with a drink included: €12–€14. A daily budget of around £50 covers food, drinks and getting around without cutting corners — roughly the same price as the flight itself.
☀️ The weather
July and August are peak summer in Malaga. Daytime temperatures reach 30–32°C with almost zero rainfall — July averages just two rainy days in the whole month. Evenings cool to around 22°C. Sea temperature hits 23°C by August, warm enough to swim well into the evening. Expect blue skies every day.

🎯 What to do
Malaga packs more into a short trip than most coastal cities.
Alcazaba — 11th-century Moorish fortress above the port. Climb through terraced gardens to the top for views over the Roman Theatre and the coast below.
Picasso Museum — Malaga is Picasso's birthplace. Over 200 works in the Palacio de Buenavista. Go early in summer — queues build fast.
Mercado de Atarazanas — A 14th-century Moorish arch housing a market full of jamón, fresh fish, olives and cold beer. The best way to spend a morning in the city.
Malagueta Beach — The city beach, ten minutes' walk from the historic centre. Sandy and lively — busy in a way that feels energetic rather than crowded.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Malaga sits at the heart of Andalusia. Most of it is within two hours.
Ronda — 1 hour west. A white hilltop city split by a 100-metre gorge. The Puente Nuevo bridge above the canyon floor is one of the most dramatic views in Spain.
Granada — 1.5 hours by bus. Home to the Alhambra, the best-preserved Arab palace in the world. Book tickets before you travel.
Marbella — 45 minutes along the coast. Old town, Golden Mile, and the most famous marina on the Costa del Sol.
Nerja — 1 hour east. Cliffs, caves and quieter beaches. The Balcón de Europa viewpoint is worth the drive on its own.
