💰 How far does your money go?
Singapore has a reputation for being expensive, and parts of it are. But hawker centres change the equation. A plate of chicken rice at Maxwell Food Centre costs €2. A bowl of laksa, €3. A fresh coconut juice on a hot afternoon, €1.50. Even a pint of Tiger at a rooftop bar won't break you at €9. You can eat extraordinarily well here on €25 a day if you eat where locals eat. Budget around €60–80 per day all in, and you will not feel like you're skimping.
☀️ The weather
Singapore sits one degree north of the equator, so the temperature barely moves: 25–32°C year-round, with high humidity throughout. The drier months are February, March, and April. September through November brings regular afternoon showers — they rarely last long and the city barely slows down. November through January is slightly wetter. Pack light, carry a small umbrella, and dress in breathable fabric.
🏨 Where to stay
Singapore rewards choosing your neighbourhood wisely. Bugis, Clarke Quay, and the CBD all put you within reach of everything.

🎯 What to do
Singapore is small enough to cover in a week. Make every day count.
Gardens by the Bay — The Supertree Grove and Cloud Forest are unlike anything in Europe. Go at dusk when the light display starts. Free to walk the outdoor gardens.
Maxwell Food Centre — The definitive hawker centre. Come hungry and work through chicken rice, char kway teow, and rojak. The food here will reset your expectations of what cheap cooking can taste like.
Clarke Quay at night — Singapore's riverside entertainment strip comes alive after dark. Bars built into old shophouses, live music drifting across the water, and enough energy to keep going until late.
Sentosa Island — Universal Studios, the S.E.A. Aquarium, a cable car across the harbour, and beaches that feel improbably close to a financial capital. A full day, at minimum.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Singapore is one of Asia's best-connected hubs. Use it as a launchpad.
Bintan, Indonesia — 45 minutes by ferry from HarbourFront Terminal. White sand beaches, clear water, and full-service resorts at a fraction of comparable European prices.
Bali, Indonesia — 2 hours by flight. Rice terraces, temples, world-class surf, and some of the best food in Southeast Asia. Budget carriers fly there cheaply.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — 45 minutes by flight or 4 hours by train. Great city for food, street art, and Petronas Tower views. Much cheaper than Singapore to eat and sleep.
Langkawi, Malaysia — 1.5 hours by flight. Rainforest, waterfalls, and beaches on a duty-free island. Quieter than Bali and far less discovered.
Phuket, Thailand — 1.5 hours by flight. Beaches, temples, Thai food, and the energy of the Andaman coast. Easy to reach and always worth it.
Scoot flies this route non-stop. At €465 return, Singapore just moved within reach. Don't wait until prices disagree with you.
