By late October, Amsterdam is dark before six and the wind comes sideways off the IJ. Ten hours south, Zanzibar sits at 30°C with the Indian Ocean at 27°C.

💰 How far does your money go?
A half-litre of Kilimanjaro lager costs about €2 in a local bar, less than half the price of a biertje on an Amsterdam terras. A Zanzibar pizza, the island's folded street snack stuffed with egg, meat or banana, is €1 to €2. A full plate of mishkaki skewers and chips at the Forodhani night market comes in under €5, cheaper than a broodje kroket at Centraal.
☀️ The weather
Late October and early November mark the start of Zanzibar's short rains. Days reach 29°C to 30°C and nights stay warm, around 24°C. Showers are short and heavy, usually in the afternoon, and the sun is back within the hour. The sea stays at about 27°C, and the beaches are quieter than in the peak summer months.

🎯 What to do
Zanzibar is more than one beach. Each coast has its own pace.
Learn to kitesurf in Paje. The shallow, flat lagoon makes it one of the easiest places in the world to take your first lesson.
Swim in Kuza Cave. A limestone cave near Jambiani with a natural pool of clear, cool water inside.
Eat at The Rock. A small restaurant built on a rock in the sea off Michamvi. You walk there at low tide and take a boat back at high tide.
Spend an evening at Forodhani Gardens. Stone Town's seafront night market, with grilled seafood, sugar cane juice and the sunset over the harbour.
