💰 How far does your money go?
A pint in a London pub now costs around £6.50. In Bangkok, a large Chang from a corner shop is about 60 baht, roughly £1.40. A plate of pad krapow from a street stall is 60 baht too. A Thai massage runs about 300 baht for an hour, under £7, less than a single Zone 1 Tube ride and a coffee. Eat where the locals eat and £15 a day covers food and drink comfortably.
☀️ The Weather
Late October is the tail end of the rainy season, with short afternoon showers and plenty of sun in between. From November to February, Bangkok hits its best stretch: dry, clear skies and highs of 31°C to 32°C, with evenings around 22°C to 24°C. March turns properly hot, up to 34°C, so plan pools and rooftop bars for the afternoon.
🏨 Where to Stay
Sukhumvit and the riverside are the easiest bases for a first visit.
The Yard Hostel: 9.2/10 · From £20/night A laid-back garden hostel in Ari, a local neighbourhood full of cafés, two minutes from the BTS.
Ariyasomvilla: 9.0/10 · From £95/night A restored 1940s family villa off Sukhumvit, with a saltwater pool and a vegetarian Thai restaurant.
The Siam: 9.4/10 · From £420/night Art deco riverside hideaway in Dusit with its own boat to the Grand Palace. The one to splurge on.
🎯 What to Do
A city that does temples by morning and rooftops by night.
Wat Pho and Wat Arun: The 46-metre reclining Buddha, then a cheap ferry across the river to the Temple of Dawn. Go before 9am to beat the heat.
Chatuchak Weekend Market: Over 15,000 stalls of vintage clothes, ceramics and grilled skewers. Saturdays and Sundays only.
Yaowarat after dark: Chinatown's main road turns into one long open-air kitchen. Follow the longest queues.
Loy Krathong: On 24 November 2026, the city floats candlelit baskets on the river. The 09/11 and 15/11 departures land right on it.
