Four hours south of Porto, there are islands where the sand is white, the beer costs €1.50, and the sea stays at 24°C in December. Cape Verde has eight routes from Portugal right now with EasyJet, all non-stop, all under €220 return. That is not a typo. Pick your island.

💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?
A cold Strela beer in Cape Verde costs €1.50. The same beer on a Lisbon esplanada runs you €3. A plate of grilled tuna with potatoes and salad, one of the islands' staples, comes in at €6–8 at a local restaurant: less than half the price of a prato do dia in Lisbon's tourist districts. A full day out, including lunch, drinks, and a boat trip, rarely breaks €40.
☀️ The Weather
Lisbon in summer is warm and reliable. Cape Verde is something else: 26–28°C from May onwards, almost zero rainfall, and a constant Atlantic breeze that keeps the heat comfortable rather than oppressive. In winter, when Porto drops to 12–15°C and grey, the islands hold steady at 24–26°C. The weather there barely changes. Yours will.
🏨 Where to Stay
Sal and Boa Vista are the beach island options. Praia works better for city life; Mindelo on São Vicente for music and culture.

🎯 What to Do
Each island has a different character. Don't just stay at the resort.
Pedra de Lume Salt Crater (Sal) — A volcanic crater turned natural salt spa. You float without effort, the water is warm, and the pink salt landscape looks completely unreal. One of those places that actually exceeds the photos.
Viana Desert Dune Safari (Boa Vista) — Cape Verde's biggest desert, explored by 4x4. Amber dunes at sunset, the Atlantic on the horizon, and nothing else for miles. The standard day trip on Boa Vista, and still the best one.
Mindelo Music and Street Life (São Vicente) — The cultural capital of Cape Verde. Live music every night, a seafront that invites you to stay for hours, and the kind of town energy you don't expect to find on a small Atlantic island. Go for one night and end up staying three.
Loggerhead Turtle Watching (Boa Vista) — Between June and October, loggerhead turtles nest on Boa Vista's remote south coast. Guided night tours take you to the beach as they come ashore. This is a genuine conservation programme, not tourist theatre. Quietly extraordinary.
🗺️ Where to Go From Here
Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 islands. Flying into one does not mean seeing only one.
Santo Antão — The greenest island, with mountain valleys, cloud forest hiking trails, and almost no beach tourism. 35 minutes by ferry from Mindelo (São Vicente).
Fogo — An active volcano you can hike to the rim of, wine made in volcanic soil, and a village that was buried in the 2014 eruption and rebuilt around the lava. Short domestic flight from Praia.
Santiago — The most African-feeling island in the archipelago. Praia is a real city, with colonial history, local markets, and the Ribeira Grande fortress (UNESCO) 15 km north.
Sal and Boa Vista combined — Both are beach islands but different in feel. Sal is busier, better for watersports and nightlife. Boa Vista is quieter, with longer empty beaches and more desert. Worth combining if you have the time.
€126 return from Lisbon. Four hours on a plane and you land somewhere that feels like a completely different world. These prices don't wait around. Check availability here.
