💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?
A burek — Croatia's flaky pastry stuffed with cheese or meat — costs €2.50. A cold Ožujsko beer at a Dalmatian bar runs €3.20. A set lunch at a konoba (a traditional Croatian tavern): €8–12, including a glass of house wine. The average pint in London now sits at £6.75. In Split or Zadar, you drink for less than half that.
☀️ The Weather
London in July averages 23°C on a good day — and is still capable of delivering a grey, drizzly week in peak summer. The Dalmatian coast in July sits at 29–31°C with near-zero rainfall and around ten hours of sunshine per day. August matches it. You will not be guessing whether to bring an umbrella.

🎯 What to Do
Croatia rewards those who go beyond the obvious.
Walk the walls of Dubrovnik — 2km of medieval city walls, 25 metres above the Adriatic. The most dramatic urban walk in Europe. Go before 8am — by 10am the cruise ships have arrived.
Explore Diocletian's Palace, Split — A Roman emperor's retirement home that became an entire city. People live, eat and work inside 1,700-year-old walls. Nothing else in Europe is quite like it.
Hike the Paklenica canyon, near Zadar — Limestone gorges, forested trails, and one of the best day hikes on the Adriatic coast. About an hour from Zadar by bus.
Island-hop from Split — Brač, Hvar, Vis — ferries leave from Split harbour throughout the day. An afternoon on Hvar is enough to understand why people come back every summer.
🗺️ Where to Go From Here
The mainland cities are entry points. The islands and nearby countries are the real draw.
Hvar — 1 hour by ferry from Split. Lavender fields, clifftop fortresses, and the clearest water in the Adriatic.
Korcula — 2 hours by ferry from Split. Quieter than Hvar, arguably more beautiful. A medieval old town Marco Polo supposedly called home.
Plitvice Lakes — 1.5 hours by bus from Zadar. Sixteen turquoise lakes connected by waterfalls. One of Europe's most spectacular national parks — arrive early.
Mostar, Bosnia — 2.5 hours from Dubrovnik by bus. The Ottoman old bridge, rebuilt stone for stone. A day trip that feels like a different century.
Kotor, Montenegro — 2 hours from Dubrovnik. A walled medieval city at the edge of a dramatic bay. Worth the border crossing.
£19 return, non-stop to Croatia this summer. At these prices, there is no good reason to wait.
