💰 How far does your money go?

A pint in central London costs around £6.50. In Nadi, a Fiji Gold at a local bar costs about £1.70. A plate of chicken curry with rice in the market comes in at around £2.30. Even at a proper sit-down restaurant, you are looking at well under £17 for two courses. Fiji rewards budget travellers without making them feel it.

☀️ The weather

September and October are the sweet spot. Temperatures sit at a steady 28–29°C with clear skies and low rainfall. November and December mark the start of the wet season, though you are still looking at 29–30°C with warm evenings. February and March bring the year's hottest temperatures, up to 30°C, but also the heaviest rainfall, averaging around 317mm in February alone. If dry days matter more than warmth, September or October are the most reliable months to go.

🏨 Where to stay

Options run from airport-adjacent budget hotels to full beachfront resort luxury.

Fiji Gateway Hotel — 8.1/10 on Booking · From £35/night Right across from the arrivals terminal with free transfers, two pools and two restaurants. The no-fuss pick for island-hoppers who need a solid base.

Wyndham Garden Wailoaloa Beach Fiji — 8.5/10 on Booking · From £65/night Directly on Wailoaloa Beach with a pool and bar. The smart mid-range choice for travellers who want sand outside the door without paying full resort rates.

Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa — 9.2/10 on Booking · From £110/night Swim-up bar, evening entertainment, spa treatments and champagne service. The highest-rated resort in Nadi, and consistently so.

🎯 What to do

Nadi is far more than an airport stop. Give it two or three days.

Garden of the Sleeping Giant — More than 2,000 varieties of orchid across the former estate of actor Raymond Burr. Worth getting up early for.

Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool — Coat yourself in volcanic mud, dry off in the sun, then rinse in the natural hot springs. Sounds odd. Genuinely brilliant.

Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple — The largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere. The exterior is so detailed and colourful it barely looks real.

Skydive Fiji — Tandem jumps from 15,000 feet over the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Every shade of blue, all the way down.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Nadi is the entry point. The rest of Fiji is the reason to stay longer.

Mamanuca Islands — 30 to 45 minutes by catamaran from Port Denarau. White sand, snorkelling and resorts that look exactly like the pictures.

Yasawa Islands — Three-plus hours on the Yasawa Flyer ferry. Remote beaches, crystal-clear water and almost no crowds. Worth the journey.

Suva — Fiji's capital, around two hours east by road. Colonial architecture, a strong national museum and a far more local feel than the resort strip.

Beqa Island — An hour south by boat. Known for shark diving and traditional fire-walking ceremonies with the local village.

Fares like this on British Airways to Fiji do not come around often. Pick a date, add a few nights in the Mamanucas and make the trip count.
