Return flights to Hanoi from London for £389, one stop
Swap the grey and the tube crush for £1 bowls of pho.
You're standing on a rammed platform in the rain, coat soaked through, waiting for a delayed Central line train. Meanwhile Hanoi's Old Quarter is buzzing at 24°C, plastic stools out on the pavement, bia hoi flowing for less than a pound a glass. China Eastern is flying there from London for £389, one stop.

💰 How far does your money go?
A bowl of pho on a street corner costs around £1.05. A glass of bia hoi, Hanoi's famous fresh beer, is closer to 65p. Sit down for a full local meal with rice, meat, vegetables and a couple of beers for two, and you're still under £4 total, less than a single pint in most London pubs. A three-star hotel room averages £27 a night.
☀️ The weather
London in November hovers between 4°C and 11°C, with rain on about 15 days and barely two hours of sunshine a day. It's the kind of month that makes the whole city move slower.
Hanoi doesn't do that. November highs sit around 26°C, lows rarely drop below 18°C, and humidity finally eases off after the summer. It's widely considered the best month to visit: warm days, cool evenings, and hardly any rain.

🎯 What to do
Hanoi rewards slow mornings and late nights in equal measure.
Hoan Kiem Lake at sunrise — Watch locals doing tai chi by the water before the city wakes up properly.
Temple of Literature — Vietnam's first university, a calm run of courtyards right in the centre of town.
Old Quarter street food crawl — Bun cha, egg coffee and bia hoi corners, all within a 20-minute walk of each other.
Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre — A centuries-old art form found almost nowhere else in the world.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Hanoi is also the easiest base for northern Vietnam's biggest sights.
Ninh Binh — Limestone karsts rising out of rice paddies, often called "Ha Long Bay on land". About 2 hours by road.
Ha Long Bay — UNESCO-listed emerald waters and over 1,000 islands, best seen on an overnight cruise. Around 3-4 hours by road.
Sapa — Terraced rice fields and hill-tribe villages in the far north. Roughly 5-6 hours by bus or overnight train.
Cat Ba Island — Halong Bay's largest island, good for kayaking and rock climbing. About 4 hours from Hanoi.
