One of Asia's most extraordinary cities. For less than a week's work lunches in London.
Hong Kong doesn't ease you in. The skyline hits before the plane even lands: towers stacked on ridgelines, harbour lights bleeding into the sea. And for £342 return from Gatwick or Heathrow, China Eastern is making it happen from September.

💰 How far does your money go?
A draught beer costs around £5. A full meal at a cha chaan teng, Hong Kong's iconic all-day diners, sets you back £4 to £8. Street food from the Temple Street stalls runs closer to £1. For a city with a reputation for being expensive, the day-to-day adds up to far less than a weekend in Zone 1.
☀️ The weather
September is warm and humid at around 28°C, with typhoon season winding down. October clears up, humidity drops, and you're looking at 25°C and blue skies. November is arguably the best month: 21°C, dry and consistently sunny. December and January are cool and crisp at 16–17°C, perfect for walking the city. By March, temperatures are back around 19°C and climbing.

🎯 What to do
Ultramodern and ancient, chaotic and surprisingly calm: Hong Kong rewards wandering.
Victoria Peak: Ride the historic Peak Tram to the city's best vantage point. The skyline at night is one of those views that actually lives up to the hype.
Star Ferry: A 10-minute crossing of Victoria Harbour between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Still the best way to take in the skyline, and it costs less than £1.
Temple Street Night Market: Stalls, street food, fortune tellers and noise. Come after 8pm when it's at its most alive.
Ngong Ping 360: A cable car across Lantau Island to the giant Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Quiet, elevated, and an entirely different side of Hong Kong.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Hong Kong is a gateway to a lot more than Hong Kong.
Macau: Portuguese cobblestones, UNESCO ruins and casino towers, 60 minutes by ferry. Completely unlike anywhere else in Asia.
Shenzhen: China's most forward-looking city, 45 minutes by bullet train from Kowloon. Futuristic districts, a buzzing food scene, and prices that make Hong Kong look expensive.
Lantau Island: Still technically Hong Kong, but a different world. Monasteries, hiking trails and fishing villages, reachable by ferry or cable car from the city.
