The Star Ferry pulls out of Tsim Sha Tsui and the skyline rears up in front of you, neon stacked on glass stacked on mountain. It is 26°C and the air smells of soy sauce and salt water. Back in Stockholm the sun clocked off hours ago.

💰 How far does your money go?
A beer in a Stockholm pub runs about €6. In Hong Kong that buys dinner. A bowl of wonton noodles at a dai pai dong is €4.50. A plate of char siu rice is around €5. A large bottle of Tsingtao on a plastic stool comes to €3. A full open-air feast, several dishes and drinks, lands between €7 and €14 a head. An all-day pass for the metro, tram and Star Ferry is €8.60. You can eat and move around well here on €30 a day.
☀️ The weather
You know what Stockholm is doing. Mid-September highs scrape 14°C and it drops fast from there: single digits by late October, near freezing and dark by mid-afternoon in December. Hong Kong runs the other way. September is hot and sticky at 31°C. October settles to 28°C. November is the prize, dry, clear and 24°C. December cools to a mild 19°C, a light jacket after dark and nothing else.
