Petronas Towers lit up against a humid night sky, a plate of nasi lemak for the price of a coffee back home, and a city that never quite cools down.
Saudia is running return flights from Barcelona to Kuala Lumpur from €488, with one stop in Jeddah. It's a long haul, but the value on the other end makes it worth the layover.

💰 How far does your money go?
A plate of nasi lemak at a hawker stall costs around €2.60, and a full meal off a Jalan Alor food cart rarely tops €3. A cold Tiger beer at a night market runs about €2.50, roughly what you'd pay for a caña back in Barcelona, except it comes with a plate of satay on the side. A proper night out in Bukit Bintang, drinks included, still lands under €30.
☀️ The weather
Barcelona cools fast once autumn hits, dropping to highs around 21°C in October and a chilly 14°C by February. Kuala Lumpur doesn't do seasons: expect 31-33°C and thick humidity whichever month you fly, with a short daily downpour to cut the heat. Pack for summer no matter when you go.

🎯 What to do
Kuala Lumpur runs on street food, skyscrapers and jungle just outside the city limits.
Batu Caves and Kanching Falls — Climb the 272 steps past the golden Lord Murugan statue, then cool off at the waterfalls outside the city.
Petronas Twin Towers skybridge — Cross the bridge between the towers, then take the lift up for the view over the whole city.
Jalan Alor night market — Plastic stools, charcoal grills and satay skewers until well past midnight.
Genting Highlands cable ride — A cable car up to a hill resort with cooler air, casinos and theme park rides.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Kuala Lumpur is also the easiest jumping-off point for the rest of Malaysia.
Malacca — A UNESCO-listed port city with Dutch and Portuguese architecture, about 2 hours south by car.
Cameron Highlands — Tea plantations and cool mountain air, roughly 3-4 hours north.
Penang — George Town's street art and food scene, around 4 hours by car or a short domestic flight.
Langkawi — Beaches and duty-free shopping, a short domestic flight from KL.
