💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?
NYC has a reputation for being expensive. Some of it is earned. But street food tells a different story. A pizza slice costs $4. Chinatown dumplings run $6 for a plate. A halal cart platter -- the one with the rice, the chicken, and the white sauce -- comes in at $9. That's lunch for less than the price of a meal deal on a London high street. Where you spend matters more than where you go.
☀️ The Weather
London in September: 17°C on a good day, grey by mid-afternoon, rain a near-certainty. New York in September sits at 26°C with low humidity, clear skies, and long evenings you can actually use. It's genuinely the best month to visit. Summer crowds have thinned, the parks are still green, and you don't need a coat. Come October, that changes fast.

🎯 What to Do
New York does not wait for you to catch up.
SUMMIT One Vanderbilt -- Observation deck 427 metres above Midtown, with mirror rooms, glass floors, and unobstructed views of the skyline. Nothing quite like it.
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island -- Take the ferry early. Walk the grounds. Ellis Island is quieter and, for most visitors, more affecting than the statue itself.
Smorgasburg, Brooklyn -- Saturday outdoor food market in Williamsburg. Around 80 vendors. Korean BBQ, lobster rolls, birria tacos. Go hungry.
Brooklyn Bridge Walk -- Start from the DUMBO side, early morning. Free. Forty minutes across, and the best view of Lower Manhattan you'll find.
🗺️ Where to Go From Here
NYC is a hub. Use it.
Boston -- 3.5 hours by Amtrak from Penn Station. Compact, walkable, entirely different pace. History, seafood, and cheaper hotels.
Washington DC -- 2.5 hours by Amtrak. Free museums, the National Mall, Georgetown. One of the best cities in the US for a long weekend.
The Hamptons -- 2.5 hours by train from Penn Station. September is perfect: the summer crowd has left, the ocean is still warm.
Niagara Falls -- 90-minute domestic flight from JFK. One of the genuinely unmissable natural sights in North America.
£376 non-stop to New York. That's a Thursday morning at Gatwick, not a 10-hour detour through a hub. Check the September dates before they go.
