💰 How far does your money go?
A beer in a Brussels bar costs around €4.50. In Japan, a cold can from a convenience store runs €2. A bowl of ramen at a street counter: €5. A full sit-down meal at a tonkatsu or tempura restaurant: €15. Belgium has excellent food culture. Japan has the most Michelin stars in the world, and the street level is just as serious.
☀️ The weather
Brussels in June is 15–20°C with more cloud than sun. Japan in June is its rainy season: 22–28°C, humid, with warm downpours that clear quickly. Not the driest month, but far from the worst. By late June the rain eases. July arrivals get full summer: 28–32°C and clear skies.

🎯 What to do
Japan does not do half measures.
Dotonbori, Osaka: The most alive street in Japan after dark. Neon signs, octopus balls from the counter, hundreds of restaurants competing for the same pavement.
Osaka Castle: The defining landmark of western Japan. The park turns golden in June. The museum inside is worth an hour.
Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo: Go at 10pm. Every direction is crowds, light and noise. Nothing else like it.
Tsukiji Outer Market, Tokyo: The stalls still serve the best sushi breakfast in the world. Arrive before 9am.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Both cities are gateways to the rest of Japan.
Kyoto: 15 minutes from Osaka by Shinkansen. Temples, bamboo groves, and the most visually striking city in Japan.
Nara: 45 minutes from Osaka by train. Wild deer roam ancient shrine grounds. Nothing like it in Europe.
Hakone: 90 minutes from Tokyo. Mt. Fuji views, hot spring baths, and ryokan dinners that last two hours.
Hiroshima and Miyajima: Three and a half hours by Shinkansen. One of the most significant day trips in the world.
€564 from Brussels. One stop. Japan before summer is over.
