Amsterdam in June is fine. Mild, occasionally grey, and expensive. Phuket in June is 30 degrees, emerald water, and a plate of pad thai for €1.80. Etihad fly you there with one stop in Abu Dhabi, return, from €489. That is not a detour price. That is the deal.

💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?
A Heineken at a bar in Amsterdam runs you €5.50. In Phuket, a large Chang at a beach bar costs €2.50, and you're drinking it with your feet in sand. A plate of pad thai or fried rice from a street stall: €1.80. A sit-down meal for two at a proper Thai restaurant, mains, drinks and dessert included: €18. The same money you'd spend on one round of drinks in the Jordaan gets you a full evening in Patong.
☀️ The Weather
June in Amsterdam hovers around 18–20°C. Pleasant on a good day, but "good day" is doing a lot of work. Phuket in June sits at 29–32°C with a warm sea. There are afternoon downpours, but they pass in an hour and the evenings are cooler for it. June is low season, which means 40–50% lower hotel rates and far fewer tourists on the beaches. The rain makes it better, not worse.

🎯 What to Do
Phuket is the base. The best parts are often off the island.
Phi Phi Islands Speedboat Day Trip: Maya Bay, limestone cliffs, turquoise water. The beach from The Beach, without the crowds. One of those days that justifies the whole trip.
Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island: Dramatic limestone karsts rising from mirror-calm water. Kayak through sea caves, stop at a floating fishing village. Better at sunrise than midday.
Big Buddha and Old Phuket Town: The 45-metre marble Buddha above Chalong Bay has panoramic views across the whole island. Walk back down to Phuket Town's Sino-Portuguese shophouses for lunch.
Bangla Road After Dark: Not for everyone. Unmissable for most. Patong's main strip after 22:00 is one of those things you have to see once, even if only to understand what the fuss is about.
🗺️ Where to Go From Here
Phuket is an airport, not a ceiling.
Koh Phi Phi: The postcard island of Thailand. 45 minutes by speedboat. Stay a night and it feels completely different to the day trip version.
Koh Lanta: Quieter, longer beaches, no party strip. Two hours by ferry from Phuket. The right choice if rest is the actual point.
Similan Islands: Considered the best snorkelling and diving in Thailand. 90 minutes by speedboat from Khao Lak, with day trips departing from Phuket.
Chiang Mai: Mountains, temples, night markets, and a completely different Thailand. 1 hour 20 minutes by domestic flight from Phuket International.
Krabi: Dramatic limestone cliffs, Railay Beach, calmer waters. 2 hours by ferry or 45 minutes by speedboat from Phuket.
€489 return from Amsterdam. June prices in low season, without the crowds. These seats go fast once people start searching. Check availability here.
