💰 How far does your money go?
Away from the beachfront hotels, Rio is good value. A caipirinha from a beach kiosk costs around €3.30, less than a Spritzer at a Viennese Heuriger. A coxinha from a corner bakery is about €1.20, and a prato feito, the daily set plate of rice, beans and meat, comes in at around €6. A metro ride is €1.10, less than half a single Wiener Linien ticket.

Santa Teresa and the Selarón Steps. Ride the yellow bonde tram up to the hilltop neighbourhood, then walk down the tiled staircase to Lapa.

Hang gliding from Pedra Bonita. A tandem flight over the forest, landing on São Conrado beach.
