Singapore tends to get dismissed as expensive. It isn't — not if you know where to eat. A hawker centre meal costs around S$4 (£2.30). A kopi at a local coffee shop is S$1.20 (about 70p). You can eat well all day for under £10. At £417 return from Heathrow, getting there is now the easy part.

💰 How far does your money go?
In Singapore, a hawker centre meal — chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow — costs S$4 to S$6 (about £2.30–£3.40). A kopi (local coffee brewed over condensed milk) is S$1.20 (under 70p). You can eat three proper meals and a couple of coffees for less than £10. If you want to splash out, a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel costs S$39 (£22). Still cheaper than a night out in London.
☀️ The weather
September and October are warm and lively: expect 28–30°C with short afternoon showers that pass quickly. November through January is the northeast monsoon season — still warm at 25–28°C, but wetter, especially in December. February is one of the best months to visit: drier, slightly cooler at 25–27°C, and the city is often buzzing after Chinese New Year.

🎯 What to do
Singapore rewards people who look past the shopping malls.
Gardens by the Bay — The Cloud Forest dome fits a whole tropical mountain inside a cooled greenhouse. The Supertrees are worth seeing lit up at night.
Hawker centres — Maxwell Food Centre and Tiong Bahru Market are the ones to go to. Order the Hainanese chicken rice, the char kway teow, the oyster omelette.
Little India and Chinatown on foot — Two neighbourhoods, two different worlds, both walkable. Incense, colour and street life you won't find anywhere else in Southeast Asia.
Night Safari — The world's first nocturnal zoo, where animals roam freely along lit trails. Strange, quiet and genuinely unlike anything else.
