Brussels in late November means 6°C, drizzle and darkness by half past four. Taipei is still sitting at 21°C, with night markets running until midnight. Air China is flying Brussels to Taipei from €356 return, one stop in Beijing, with a checked bag included.

💰 How far does your money go?
A bowl of beef noodle soup costs around €5, about what you pay for one pint on a Brussels terrace. Bubble tea from a local chain is under €2. Five or six dishes at a night market, plus a drink, comes to roughly €14, less than a plate of moules-frites near the Grand Place.
☀️ The Weather
Late November in Taipei brings highs around 22°C and lows near 17°C. December cools slightly, to about 20°C by day and 15°C at night. The northeast monsoon brings grey skies and light rain on some days, so pack a thin jacket and an umbrella. It is still warm enough for evenings outdoors at the night markets.

🎯 What to Do
Taipei moves fast by day and comes alive by night.
Taipei 101 Observatory. Ride up to the 89th floor for a 360-degree view over the whole city.
Raohe and Shilin night markets. Pepper buns, stinky tofu and oyster omelettes, one stall at a time.
Elephant Mountain at sunset. A 20-minute climb of steep steps for the classic view of Taipei 101.
Beitou Hot Springs. Natural thermal baths a short MRT ride from the centre, ideal on a cooler December day.
🗺️ Where to Go From Here
Taipei is a launchpad, not the whole trip.
Jiufen and Shifen. An old mining town and a sky lantern village, about an hour by bus or train from the city.
Sun Moon Lake. Taiwan's largest freshwater lake, roughly 2.5 hours south by bus.
Taroko Gorge. A marble canyon with cliffs over 1,000m high, best as a two-day trip by train via Hualien.
Kaohsiung. Taiwan's southern port city, around 1.5 hours away on the high-speed rail and noticeably warmer in December.
€356 return to East Asia, bag included, is hard to beat from Brussels. These dates will not stay at this price for long.
