💰 How far does your money go?

A steaming plate of pad thai from a street cart costs around €2, less than an espresso at the counter in Milan. A cold Chang beer at a night market runs about €2.50, half the price of a spritz in Rome. A full sit-down dinner for two, several dishes and drinks included, comes in under €18, the price of a starter alone back home.

☀️ The Weather

Bangkok opens September still in the tail end of the rainy season, highs around 32°C with heavy afternoon showers. October and November stay warm, low 30s by day, dropping into the mid-20s at night as the rain eases off. By December the city settles into its dry season, clear skies, lower humidity and some of the most comfortable temperatures of the year for walking the streets after dark.

🏨 Where to Stay

From a Siam Square budget base to a riverside icon, Bangkok covers every price point.

Ibis Bangkok Siam — 8.1/10 · From €38/night A short walk from Siam Square and the BTS, simple rooms built for getting out and exploring.

Avani+ Riverside Bangkok — 8.8/10 · From €95/night A rooftop infinity pool and a free shuttle boat along the Chao Phraya, real river views without the five-star price.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok — 9.3/10 · From €420/night Riverside since 1879, butler service and some of the best dining in the city, for anyone making this trip the main event.

🎯 What to Do

Bangkok runs on temples, markets and a river that doubles as a highway.

Grand Palace and Wat Pho — Gold spires, the giant reclining Buddha and the city's most photographed skyline, best seen before 9am to dodge the heat and the crowds. Chatuchak Weekend Market — Over fifteen thousand stalls across thirty-five acres, from vintage clothing to street food, open Wednesday to Sunday. Khao San Road at night — Bars, live music and food stalls running well past midnight, the easiest place to meet other travellers. Longtail boat along the Chao Phraya — Temples, floating markets and stilt houses from the water, a side of the city most tourists miss entirely.

🗺️ Where to Go From Here

Bangkok is the easiest launchpad into the rest of Thailand.

Ayutthaya — The ruined former capital, an hour and a half by train, temple spires rising straight out of the grass. Chiang Mai — An hour's domestic flight north, mountains, night bazaars and a much slower pace. Koh Samui — Around an hour and a half by flight, white sand and turquoise water for the back half of the trip. Kanchanaburi — Two hours by car or train, the Bridge over the River Kwai and jungle waterfalls for a day away from the city.

Royal Jordanian seats from €442 on this route will not last through both cities' calendars. Lock in your dates before autumn fills up.
