💰 How far does your money go?

A pint in a Dublin pub now costs €6 to €7, and closer to €9 in Temple Bar. In Hanoi, a glass of bia hoi poured fresh on a street corner costs about 50 cent. A bowl of pho is €1.50 to €2.50, and a banh mi stuffed with pork and herbs is around €1. Lunch in a local spot rarely goes over €5. One round in Temple Bar would cover a full day of eating in Vietnam.

☀️ The Weather

Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc are both in dry season from November to April, with highs of 30°C to 33°C and very little rain. On Phu Quoc the sea sits around 28°C and the west coast beaches are at their calmest. Hanoi is cooler. Expect 20°C to 24°C in November and December, dropping to 17°C to 20°C in January and February, before warming back up to around 23°C in March.

🎯 What to Do

Three stops, three speeds: chaotic, electric and horizontal.

Bun cha in Hanoi: Grilled pork, rice noodles and a pile of herbs. The city's lunchtime ritual.

War Remnants Museum: Ho Chi Minh City's most powerful museum. Give it a full morning.

Hon Thom cable car: One of the longest over-sea cable cars in the world, gliding out over Phu Quoc's southern islands.

Snorkelling the An Thoi islands: Boat trips from the south of Phu Quoc to coral reefs and empty beaches.

🗺️ Where to Go From Here

With three airports on the ticket, you can fly into one and work your way through the country.

Ninh Binh: Karst cliffs and rice paddies by rowing boat, about 2 hours by road south of Hanoi.

Hue: The old imperial capital, around 1 hour 10 by domestic flight from Hanoi. Search flights

Hoi An and Da Nang: Lantern-lit lanes and long beaches, around 1 hour 20 by flight from Ho Chi Minh City. Search flights

Da Lat: Pine forests, coffee farms and cool mountain air, about 1 hour by flight from Ho Chi Minh City. Search flights

Con Dao: Quiet islands, turtle beaches and very few crowds, about 1 hour by flight from Ho Chi Minh City. Search flights

€465 return from Dublin to Vietnam, with five months of dates. Phu Quoc only drops this low in November, so start there if it's the beach you're after.
