War Remnants Museum: One of Southeast Asia's most powerful museums. Difficult, important and unmissable. Allow two hours.
Cu Chi Tunnels: An underground network built during the Vietnam War, 70km from the city. You can crawl through sections of it. Half-day trip from the centre.
Street food around Ben Thanh Market: The market itself is touristy. The streets around it at night are where the real food is. Plastic stool, local beer, eat whatever looks good.
Saigon River dinner cruise: The city looks completely different from the water at night. One of those evenings that stays with you.

Ho Chi Minh City is a strong starting point for southern Vietnam and beyond.
Mekong Delta: River life, floating markets and rice paddies, two hours south by bus. Easy as a day trip or an overnight.
