Seoul runs at a frequency Rome does not. The streets are still packed at midnight, the food costs less than a glass of house wine at a terrace in the Campo, and there are ancient palaces, neon-lit alleys and rooftop bars within walking distance of each other. Tway flies there non-stop from Rome from €608 return this June and July.

💰 How far does your money go?
A full Korean BBQ session at a neighbourhood grill costs around ₩15,000 per person, roughly €10. Tteokbokki from a street cart: ₩4,000 (€2.60). A cold maekju at a late-night pojangmacha tent bar is about ₩5,000 (€3.30). Less than a glass of house wine near the Colosseum, for a beer in a city that runs until 4am.
☀️ The weather
June in Seoul sits between 24°C and 29°C: warm, bright and building into summer. The monsoon season (jangma) begins in late June, bringing short, heavy downpours rather than sustained grey. Most days still get plenty of sun. July is wetter and more humid, with highs of 28–30°C, but the rain rarely lasts more than a few hours.
🏨 Where to stay
Seoul spreads wide, but Myeongdong, Hongdae and Gangnam put you close to the best of it.

🎯 What to do
Seoul moves between centuries in under twenty minutes.
Gyeongbokgung Palace — The largest of Seoul's five Joseon-era palaces, with free entry if you wear a hanbok. Go early before the tour groups arrive.
Bukchon Hanok Village — A preserved neighbourhood of traditional wooden homes on a hillside between two palaces. Quiet in the early morning, busy with photographers by midday.
Gwangjang Market — One of Seoul's oldest covered markets, best for bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), mayak gimbap and a cup of makgeolli at a plastic table. Go hungry.
Bukhansan National Park — Granite peaks rising right behind the city skyline, with hiking trails from a thirty-minute metro ride. One of the few capitals where you can be in a national park by 9am.
🗺️ Where to go from here
South Korea rewards the travellers who look beyond the capital.
Busan — 2.5 hours south by KTX high-speed train. Korea's second city has Jagalchi fish market, beach neighbourhoods and a pace completely different to Seoul.
Jeju Island — 1 hour by domestic flight. A volcanic island with lava tube caves, black-sand beaches and Hallasan, the highest peak in South Korea.
Gyeongju — 2 hours from Seoul by KTX. The former Silla Kingdom capital with burial mounds rising from the city centre and temple complexes in the surrounding hills.
Nami Island — 1.5 hours by metro and ferry. A small island famous for its tree-lined paths through birch and pine forests. An easy day trip from Seoul.
