Buenos Aires has more Italian roots than most people realise. Around 60% of Argentines trace ancestry back to Italy, and the city's wide boulevards, café culture, and pasta obsession all feel strangely familiar. November is spring there: parks in bloom, 18–24°C, and a full steak dinner for less than a pizza back home. Turkish Airlines flies the route from Rome with two stops, starting from €690 return.

Flying with Turkish Airlines means a layover in Istanbul. If your connection is long enough, you may be entitled to a free hotel night in Istanbul. Worth checking before you book.

💰 How far does your money go?

A café con leche with medialunas costs about €1. A fresh empanada: under €1. A full dinner at a traditional parrilla, steak, wine and dessert, runs around €20 per person. That is roughly the price of a single pasta dish in central Rome, for a full evening out in Buenos Aires.

☀️ The weather

November is spring in Buenos Aires. Temperatures sit between 18–24°C, the jacaranda trees are in full purple bloom across the city, and the parks fill with locals who have been waiting months for this. Short afternoon storms pass quickly and leave the air clean. One of the best months to visit.

🏨 Where to stay

Buenos Aires has strong options across every budget, from the cobblestoned streets of San Telmo to the waterfront at Puerto Madero.

Design hotel in the heart of San Telmo, a short walk from the Sunday market. Good rooms, breakfast included, and one of the better locations in the city.

Palladio Hotel Buenos Aires MGallery, 8.8/10 · From €130/night
Boutique property close to the Colón Theatre and Recoleta Cemetery. Rooftop terrace with city views and service that punches above its price.

Alvear Palace Hotel, 9.3/10 · From €320/night
The grande dame of Buenos Aires since 1932. French Empire architecture in Recoleta, impeccable service, and afternoon tea in one of the most elegant rooms in South America.

🎯 What to do

Buenos Aires moves between European elegance and Latin intensity. Both are worth your time.

San Telmo Sunday market - The city's oldest neighbourhood fills with antique dealers, street food and live tango performers every Sunday. One of the best free afternoons in the city.

Teatro Colón - One of the great opera houses of the world, right in the centre of Buenos Aires. Book a guided tour or, better, a seat for an evening performance.

Recoleta Cemetery - Marble mausoleums, labyrinthine streets of the dead, and the tomb of Evita Perón. Sounds grim. It is actually one of the most visually striking places in the city.

Tango in La Boca - Buenos Aires invented tango and La Boca is where it still lives, on street corners and in small milongas. An evening here is unlike anywhere else on earth.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Buenos Aires is the gateway to one of the most varied continents on the planet.

Montevideo - 2 hours by ferry across the Río de la Plata. Uruguay's capital is quieter, cheaper, and often overlooked. A strong overnight from Buenos Aires.

Iguazú Falls - 2-hour flight north. One of the great natural spectacles on earth: 275 waterfalls wider than Niagara. Essential if you have the extra days.

Mendoza - 1.5 hours by plane west into the Andes foothills. Argentina's wine capital, Malbec country, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.

Bariloche - 2-hour flight south into Patagonia. Lakes, mountains, hiking trails and chocolatiers that have made this one of Argentina's most beloved destinations.

Under €700 from Rome. Spring in Argentina, world-class steak, and a city that feels stranger and more familiar than you expect.
