Hong Kong is the kind of place that makes other cities feel quiet. The harbour lit up at night, the tram grinding up to Victoria Peak, the chaos and the order of it all happening at once. From Milan, you can get there and back from €435 with Air China — and with dates spread across June and September, there is no shortage of windows to go.

💰 How far does your money go?
A bowl of wonton noodles on a side street costs around €3. A local beer from a corner store runs about €1. Street snacks — curry fish balls, pineapple buns — are €1–2 each. You can eat properly for €15 a day without trying. Compare that to a sit-down dinner in Milan and the maths becomes obvious.
☀️ The weather
June is hot, humid and wet. Temperatures sit between 27°C and 31°C, with rain possible on most days during the rainy season. Still worth going — just pack light and expect afternoon showers. September is the better pick: still warm (27–32°C), fewer rain days, and typhoon season beginning to wind down. For most people, September wins.

🎯 What to do
Hong Kong packs more into a small space than almost anywhere else.
Victoria Peak — Ride the historic Peak Tram up, then watch the city below shift from dusk to full light-show. One of the great urban views on the planet.
Temple Street Night Market — Chaotic in the best way. Stalls, street food, random finds. Arrive around 8pm when it hits full stride.
Dragon's Back hike — A 9km coastal trail with sweeping views over the South China Sea. Trailhead is a short bus ride from the city centre.
Tai O fishing village — Traditional stilt houses built over the water, narrow lanes, shrimp paste drying in the sun. Nothing else in Hong Kong looks or feels like this.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Hong Kong is a hub. Use it as one.
Macau — 1 hour by ferry. Portuguese colonial streets, famous egg tarts, and a coastline that surprises most first-timers.
Shenzhen — 20 minutes by high-speed train. Ultra-modern, very cheap, and worth a half-day for the contrast alone.
Lamma Island — 30 minutes by ferry. No cars, no chain restaurants, just hiking trails, seafood spots, and a genuinely different pace.
Lantau Island — Cable car up to the Big Buddha, then down to Tai O for stilt houses and proper village atmosphere.
Prices at this level don't hang around. If June or September works, check the dates and book.
