💰 How far does your money go?
The Maldives is only expensive if you stay on a private island. On a local island, a guesthouse room with breakfast starts at around €80 a night. A plate of fish curry with roshi costs about €6, roughly what you pay for a Melange at Café Sperl. A full dinner of grilled reef fish costs less than a Schnitzel at Figlmüller, and the public ferry from Malé is under €2.

November is the handover from wet season to dry. Days sit at 30–31°C, nights at 26°C, and the sea holds at 29°C. Short tropical showers are still possible early in the month, usually gone within the hour. By late November and into December, the skies settle and the water is at its clearest.

Below the surface is where the Maldives really shows off.
Snorkelling with whale sharks. South Ari Atoll is one of the few places where they are seen all year round.
Diving at Banana Reef. One of the first dive sites in the country, with caves, overhangs and reef sharks.
Night fishing on a dhoni. Handlines, a traditional boat and whatever you catch grilled for dinner.
Old Friday Mosque in Malé. Built in 1658 from carved coral stone, and one of the most striking buildings in the country.
