💰 How far does your money go?
Barcelona is cheaper than most German cities for eating and drinking out. A draught beer at a local bar costs around €2.50 — less than half what you'd pay at most Frankfurt bars. The menú del día, a three-course lunch with wine, runs €13–€15 at local restaurants. A coffee costs under €1.50 almost everywhere outside the tourist strips.
☀️ The weather
Barcelona in August sits at 28–30°C, with over 10 hours of sunshine per day and almost no chance of rain. The sea reaches 24°C — warm enough to swim comfortably from day one. Evenings cool to around 22°C, perfect for sitting outside with a glass of cava. This is peak summer, and the city is fully alive.

🎯 What to do
Barcelona gives you more than enough to fill a week.
Sagrada Família — Gaudí's never-quite-finished basilica is the most visited monument in Spain. Book timed tickets in advance — the queues without them are brutal.
The Gothic Quarter — Roman ruins underfoot, medieval alleyways above. Best explored early morning before the tourist crowds arrive.
Barceloneta beach — The city's main beach, with chiringuito beach bars that run until sundown. Get there for late afternoon when the light is perfect.
Park Güell — Terraced gardens, colourful mosaic work and panoramic views over the city. 2026 marks 100 years since Gaudí's death — the whole city is celebrating.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Barcelona is one of the best-connected cities on the Mediterranean for a quick side trip.
Sitges — 35 km south, 35 minutes by train. Beautiful beaches, whitewashed streets and some of the best nightlife on the Catalan coast.
Montserrat — 50 km northwest, about an hour by train and cable car. Jagged mountain peaks, a 1,000-year-old monastery and views that stretch to the sea on clear days.
Tarragona — 120 km south, one hour by train. Roman amphitheatre overlooking the Mediterranean, ancient city walls, and far fewer tourists than Barcelona.
Costa Brava — Two hours north by bus or train. Hidden coves, turquoise water and fishing villages that still feel mostly untouched.
€46 return, non-stop, in August. There's nothing to think about.
