The Adriatic hits 26°C by July. Croatia's coast stretches for nearly 6,000 kilometres of islands, old town walls and clear water. Ryanair is selling non-stop returns from six UK cities to five destinations along that coast — and the cheapest tickets start at £35.

💰 How far does your money go?

A local beer at a bar in Split costs around £4. In a UK pub, you're paying £6 or more before you've sat down. A sit-down meal in the old town — grilled fish, pasta, a salad — is £10–12. Step back from the seafront promenades and it drops lower still. A flat white in a backstreet café is under £2. Croatia charges tourist prices on the waterfront. Walk two streets inland and the difference between here and home becomes very clear, very quickly.

☀️ The weather

In June, London averages around 20°C with cloud cover most days. The Dalmatian coast in June is already at 24–27°C, with long clear days and a sea temperature warm enough to swim in. By July and August it hits 29–30°C, the Adriatic warms to 26°C and blue skies become the default. This is not the kind of summer you cross your fingers for. It is the kind you plan around.

🏨 Where to stay

Options across the coast run from budget apartments inside Roman walls to boutique hotels overlooking the sea.

Hotel Delfin, Zadar — 8.2/10 · From €70/night A relaxed hotel 10 metres from the sea, with a covered terrace restaurant. Good value for the location and one of the best-positioned budget options in the city.

Hotel Peristil, Split — 8.6/10 · From €85/night Directly next to the Silver Gates of Diocletian's Palace. Family-run, perfectly located and consistently one of the most well-reviewed mid-range options in the old town.

Hotel Vestibul Palace, Split — 9.4/10 · From €180/night Eleven rooms built into the ancient walls of Diocletian's Palace itself. Exceptional service and a setting that almost nowhere else in Europe can match.

🎯 What to do

The Croatian coast rewards slow days as much as full itineraries.

Diocletian's Palace, Split — A Roman emperor's retirement complex that became a living city. 3,000 people still live inside the walls. Walk it at dusk without a tour.

Dubrovnik city walls — The 2-kilometre walk along the medieval walls is the single best thing to do in the city. Go at 8am before the cruise ship crowds arrive.

Krka Waterfalls day trip from Split — Travertine pools and cascades inside a national park, under two hours from Split. Swimming is allowed between the falls.

Blue Cave and Hvar island boat tour — A full-day trip from Split to Biševo's bioluminescent cave and on to Hvar. Long, but one of the best days available on this coast.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Every city on this list is a gateway, not a destination.

Hvar — Croatia's most famous island, one hour by fast ferry from Split. Lavender fields, clear water and a nightlife scene that actually delivers.

Brac — 50 minutes by ferry from Split. The tip of Zlatni Rat beach shifts shape with the current. One of the most photographed shorelines in Europe.

Mostar, Bosnia — 2.5 hours by car or bus from Dubrovnik. A medieval stone bridge, a covered bazaar and some of the cheapest good food in the region. Essential as a day trip.

Plitvice Lakes — A UNESCO-listed chain of turquoise lakes and waterfalls, under two hours from Zadar. The most visited natural site in Croatia, and the photos do not do it justice.

These routes are available now. June and early July carry the best value on both price and weather. Pick your city, check the dates and book before the summer rush.
