💰 How far does your money go?
A bowl of wonton noodles from a local stall costs HK$35 — about £3.50. Dim sum brunch for two rarely tops HK$200 (£20). Even a cold Tsing Tao at a local bar is HK$55 (£5.50). The MTR metro covers the whole city and rarely costs more than HK$15 (£1.50) a trip. You can eat well, move around freely and still come home with change.
☀️ The weather
November and December are Hong Kong's sweet spot: clear skies, lower humidity and temperatures between 18–24°C. January and February cool down to 14–19°C — dry, bright and perfect for walking the city all day without breaking a sweat. Easily the best time of year to visit.

🎯 What to do
Neon, mountains, dim sum and one of the best skylines on earth.
Victoria Peak — Take the Peak Tram to 552 metres for a full-city panorama over Victoria Harbour and the Kowloon skyline. Go at dusk.
Star Ferry — The crossing from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central has run since 1888. Costs less than 50p. Still one of the best things you can do in Asia.
Tai O fishing village — A stilted village on Lantau Island that feels like a different century. Winding channels, dried seafood stalls and a very quiet pace of life.
Symphony of Lights — Every night at 8pm, the entire harbour lights up in a coordinated laser and light show. Watch it from the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Hong Kong is a gateway, not a dead end.
Macau — 1-hour ferry from Sheung Wan. Portuguese colonial architecture, UNESCO-listed ruins and a very different energy to Hong Kong.
Shenzhen — 14 minutes by high-speed train from West Kowloon. A vast, modern city right on the border. Note: mainland China visa required for most nationalities.
Guangzhou — 47 minutes by train from West Kowloon. One of the best cities in the world for Cantonese food. China visa required.
Lantau Island — No extra passport needed. Cable car to the Tian Tan Buddha, green hiking trails and the stilted village of Tai O.
